Spring Events Round Up - Mark Your Calendars!

The end of the school year is coming up fast, but that doesn’t mean we’re slowing down here at Backpack Brigade.  In fact, we’re literally racing toward the finish line! (More on that below).  We have so many great events coming up between now and the end of the school year and we’re inviting our whole community to come be a part of the fun.  Your participation isn’t just a good time – a portion of every registration fee, and 100% of every individual donation goes to purchasing food to fill weekend hunger bags for the 5,100 kids we serve every weekend.  So mark your calendars and plan to come join us to have fun, enjoy the improving weather, and make a real impact in your community.  Starting with:

The Run to End Weekend Hunger, a Seattle 5K benefiting Backpack Brigade

Join us at Seward Park on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 7:00 – 11:00am for a morning of fun, community, and excitement as we come together to ensure no child in Seattle goes hungry over the weekends. Race begins at 8:00 am.  Come early and stay later to stretch, compete in themed costume contests, receive winners’ prizes, and more! Fun for all ages – run, jog, or walk to help END weekend hunger. 

Participants are invited to join us individually, as families, or as teams.  Registration fee is $40 for individual runners, $10 for youth 6-17, and kids 5 and under are free. Sign up as a group of 4 or more and get $5 off each registration!  A portion of fees will be used to purchase food to fill Backpack Brigade’s weekend hunger bags, which are distributed to more than 5,000 King County students every Friday.  Every step you take supports a brighter future for homeless and food insecure kids – register today!

Bite Of Greece

The Bite of Greece is a lively 3-day festival celebrating Greek culture with traditional street-style lunches and dinners, handmade pastries, and a marketplace full of crafts and imported deli items. From May 30th thru June 1st, come to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Seattle to enjoy live music, cultural performances, and cooking demonstrations while exploring authentic Greek flavors and artisanal goods. Perfect for families and food lovers alike, this event brings a taste of Greece to the heart of the city!  Backpack Brigade is the charity partner for this year’s festival, so come by and say hello.  Opa!

3rd Annual Chef’s Fest at Hot Stove Society

This fast-paced race to make gourmet meals from the contents of our weekend hunger bags has become a much-anticipated annual tradition here at Backpack Brigade.  This year will feature both familiar faces and surprise guest chefs, celebrity judges, audience tastings, and our special sous chefs, all competing to win the title of Best Weekend Hunger Chef.  Mark your calendars for June 5th and bookmark our events page for more details, coming soon. 

Volunteer Softball Game and BBQ

And finally, a special end-of-year celebration for all our dedicated volunteers, the annual Reds vs. Blacks softball game and BBQ!  Come to Dahl Field on Friday, June 13th at noon to play a friendly game, enjoy a delicious home made barbeque feast, and cheer on your friends and fellow volunteers.  Bring your friends and families and join us for this traditional celebration of a successful school year.
