  • What's in a bag?
    Our A.B.C Menu is comprised of six menus (Standard, Vegan, Gluten Free, Hispanic-Latinx, Asian-American, and Kosher/Halal), which not only gives kids the choice but also addresses specific dietary, cultural, and religious needs. Each menu contains 3,000 calories of kid-friendly nonperishable food, which includes 3 breakfast, 3 lunches, 3 dinners and 3 snacks. Students also have the option for a cold bag, which contains 1 apple, 1 cheese stick and 1 Go-Gurt.

    We purchase all the food for kids through our ten partner distributors. This allows us to control the nutrition and name brands while ensuring equity for every child. We convert all of our donations into purchasing food for kids. It's all we do! 100% of your donation goes toward purchasing food. We do accept donations from our Amazon Wish List of our most hard-to-find items.

    We deliver to 96 schools in Seattle, Bellevue, Renton and Highline School Districts every Thursday morning of the school year. A full list is available here:
  • How can I see if my school is signed up?

  • What do you do over the summer?
    We provide weekend hunger bags to summer school programs within the schools we serve.
  • How long has Backpack Brigade been serving schools?
    Backpack Brigade was founded in 2014 serving one school with 8 bags per week.
  • How many warehouses do you operate?

  • How big of a group can volunteer?
    We recommend a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 20 for group volunteering.
  • What's the minimum age to volunteer?
    12 with an adult and 16 unaccompanied.
  • Where does your funding come from?
    About a third of our funding comes from individuals who donate to support the mission, another third from city contracts (which cover our rent and salaries), and the final third from grants and community fundraising.
  • Is my donation tax deductible?
    Yes! You should receive a thank you receipt for tax purposes. Please contact us if you need us to resend your receipt.
  • How do I change my recurring donation amount?
    You can login to your donor account to update your contribution amount, change payment method, or pause/resume your recurring donations. Here are the step-by-step instructions.
  • Can I make a gift of stock or legacy?
    We're thrilled to announce that we have expanded our donation options! You can now support our organization by contributing stocks or using your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF).
