Celebrating the First Annual Run To End Weekend Hunger!

ree

This week we are celebrating the spectacular success of the first annual Run To End Weekend Hunger, a Seattle 5K benefiting Backpack Brigade!  With ideal weather, hundreds of enthusiastic participants, treats and info from local businesses, and a whole lot of organizational muscle from our very own Sandy Gelb, the Run surpassed our expectations to raise $8500, enough to feed 1,000 hungry kids in need!

We couldn’t have done this without the tireless work of our volunteers, who handed out race packets, hauled equipment, set up tents, took pictures, registered participants, and did a thousand little jobs to make sure everyone had a great experience.  To everyone who volunteered, thank you!

Secondly, a big shout out to all the local businesses and organizations who brought your energy, enthusiasm for the community, and support for our mission to feed hungry kids to the fair.  Thank you to David Bowe who staffed our medical tent; Emerald City Athletics; Girls On The Run; Red Gate Farm; RoJo Juice; and Y.E.T.I. for coming to be a part of our first event.

To our MC Troy McVickers of Event Source NW; Tortoise and Hare Race Timing; and The Village Perk Espresso Truck, thank you for keeping all our participants and staff upbeat, energetic, on-time, and awake!  We were so thrilled to have you there.

And finally, thank you to everyone who registered to run, jog, walk, or stroll.  We exceeded our participation stretch goal, with a final headcount of 309 people!  THANK YOU for coming and running with us, for trusting us to put on a great event, but most importantly, for playing a big part in our mission to END weekend hunger for homeless and food insecure kids in King County.  Every step you took supported a hungry child in need, and we are so grateful for every single one of you.  We hope we’ll see you all – and all your friends, families, neighbors, and colleagues – at next year’s run!
